Companies Tie Up for Mining Fluid
By Tim Sullivan

ConocoPhillips has entered an agreement to market a longwall mining fluid produced by Quaker Chemical, the companies announced last week. The product, Quintolubric 814, was developed to serve as an all-around fluid that can be used for any lubricant application in any longwall mining machinery with a variety of water chemistries.

Quaker Chemical officials said they entered the alliance because of ConocoPhillips’ extensive presence supplying lubricants to the mining industry. ConocoPhillips officials said they are eager to offer a product that will give customers “a competitive edge.”

Quintolubric 814 was introduced to the United States two years ago after two decades of use in Australia. According to Quaker Chemical, it is biodegradable and non-toxic to fish.

ConocoPhillips is based in Houston, Quaker Chemical in Conshohocken, Pa.
