Demand Outpacing Ethanolamine Supply
Operational problems at several ethanolamine plants have been resolved, bringing an end to allocations that have beset buyers. Nevertheless, sources say the market has undergone fundamental changes that will cause availability of these popular corrosion inhibitors to remain tight for the foreseeable future.

Chinese Market Attracts Petronas
Malaysia’s national petroleum company last month joined the flock of companies hitching themselves to China’s economic engine. Petronas formed a subsidiary in the southeastern city of Shenzhen to begin selling lubricants and other oil products.

Crompton Antioxidant Output Restored
Crompton Corp. says its plant in Elmira, Ontario, has resumed normal operations after repairing damage caused by a June 11 fire. The incident damaged a wastewater treatment tank and therefore forced the company to curtail operations that required much wastewater treatment.

Univar, ExMo Chemical Ink U.K. Deal
Chemical distributor Univar said last week that it has entered a partnership, covering the United Kingdom, to carry polyalphaolefins and synthetic ester base stocks produced by ExxonMobil Chemical. Univar U.K. is part of Univar N.V., which is based in Rotterdam, Netherlands, and is one of the world’s largest chemical distributors.

Base Oil Price Report
San Joaquin Refining Co. has been forced to halt deliveries of some naphthenic base stocks during a maintenance turnaround, contrary to the refiner’s plans heading into the turnaround. The Bakersfield, Calif., company says it ran short on low-viscosity pale oils because of unscheduled downtime last month.
