Independents Cry Foul Over ExMo Pricing
The Independent Lubricant Manufacturers Association last week accused ExxonMobil of predatory pricing practices in its finished lubes business and said it will ask the federal government to intervene. Officials said the viability of independent blenders is threatened by the company's failure to raise finished lube prices in line with base oil cost increases. ExxonMobil insisted it has done nothing wrong.

Chemical Prices Still Upward Bound
Crude oil costs may have slipped in recent weeks, but chemical companies are still passing on price increases for materials used to make greases, hydraulic fluids and other lubricants. FMC Lithium, BASF and Crompton Corp.’s Petroleum Additives business are among the latest to impose markups.

BASF, Dow to Build PO Plant
BASF AG and Dow Chemical Co. announced last week that they plan to build a world-scale propylene oxide plant in Antwerp, Belgium. Scheduled to open in 2008, the facility will employ the Hydrogen Peroxide to Propylene Oxide technology that the companies developed together.

Base Oil Price Report
U.S. base oil suppliers completed another round of price increases the past week, and some observers said it amounted to nothing less than upheaval for the market. Some oils from Group II supplier Motiva are now priced below Group I stocks. Group II producer ConocoPhillips decided not to raise prices – a move that some attributed to Motiva’s recent aggressiveness.
